What If a Student Fails? Options to Save the Academic Year
While the majority of students eagerly await passing marks, the BSEB has established several provisions to ensure that students who fall short do not lose an entire year. Here are the options available for students who do not pass the main examination:
1. Compartmental Examination
If a student fails in one or two subjects, they are eligible to appear for the Compartmental Examination. This supplementary exam is typically conducted a few months after the main results (likely in May 2026). Successfully passing this exam allows the student to be promoted to Class 11 without any delay.
2. Grace Marks Policy
The board also offers relief through its grace marks policy. According to the regulations, a student may be declared passed if:
They fail in one subject by a margin of up to 8% marks, orThey fail in two subjects by a margin of up to 4% marks each.
In such cases, the board may grant grace marks to help the student qualify.
3. Scrutiny and Re-evaluation
If a student believes their performance in the written exam was better than the marks awarded, they can apply for scrutiny or re-evaluation. Students who wish to request a re-check of their answer sheets must apply online through the official BSEB website (biharboardonline.bihar.gov.in) and pay the prescribed fee within the stipulated deadline.
The BSEB Class 10 examinations were conducted from February 17 to February 25, 2026. A total of 1,512,687 students registered and appeared for the annual exams across the state.
