Evolution or revolution? The all-ethernet in-vehicle network

Current in-vehicle Electrical and Electronic network architectures are complex, costly, and totally inadequate to address the needs of tomorrow. The question is not if they will change but when and how? EE architectures need to be more intelligent, flexible and connected; in-vehicle and vehicle-to-vehicle, vehicle-to-infrastructure, vehicle-to-cloud (often referred as V2X). Networking across all industries, whether it be data centres, telecommunications, industrial control or even home is IP based, operating over an Ethernet physical infrastructure. So, it was almost inevitable that Ethernet would also be the technology choice for Automotive. Is the vision of an ‘All Ethernet Vehicle’ set to become a reality?

In the presentation we will look at the changing needs and trends of in-vehicle networking, and how the industry is migrating towards a Zonal ECU based EE architecture with computing platform for autonomous driving. We provide a brief history of Automotive Ethernet and how it is evolving to meet the needs of the industry to become the dominant networking technology in the vehicle.
